Walk into any chemist or outdoor store and the mosquito repellent aisle has gotten a lot more complicated. Spray. Bands. Patches. Roll-ons. Cream. Some with DEET, some without.
Here's the thing: they're not competing with each other. They suit different situations. And once you understand that, choosing becomes a lot easier.
This guide breaks down the three main Mozzigear formats - spray, bands and patches - and tells you exactly when to use each one.
Mosquito repellent spray
Spray is the most direct form of protection - it goes on exposed skin and provides coverage across the areas you apply it.
For stronger outdoor protection, Mozzigear Natural Armour Tropical Strength Insect Repellent Spray is a natural, DEET-free pump spray made with the plant-derived active ingredient Citriodiol®, also known as Oil of Lemon Eucalyptus (OLE) or Eucalyptus citriodora oil, hydrated, cyclized. This active is derived from the Eucalyptus citriodora tree and is designed to repel mosquitoes, black flies, sandflies, midges and stable flies for up to 6 hours, and ticks for up to 4 hours.
To apply, spray evenly onto exposed skin and spread with your hands where needed, avoiding the eyes, mouth, cuts, irritated skin and sensitive areas. Do not spray directly onto the face - spray into hands first, then apply carefully. Reapply as directed, especially after heavy sweating, swimming or towel drying. Mozzigear Natural Armour Spray is suitable for adults and children from 6 months of age, when used according to the label directions. For babies and young children, apply sparingly and avoid their hands, eyes and mouth.
This spray is a useful option for families who want plant-derived mosquito protection without DEET. However, people with sensitive skin or known sensitivities to naturally occurring allergens such as citronellol, linalool or limonene should patch test first or avoid use. Always read the label, use only as directed, and seek medical advice if irritation occurs.
Spray is best for:
- Adults and older children in higher-exposure situations
- Camping, hiking, fishing, or being outdoors near water
- Evening activities when mosquito pressure is highest
- Tropical travel or areas with known mosquito-borne illness risk
Mosquito bands
Mozzigear Mosquito Bands are a simple, no-spray option for people who want easy mosquito protection while spending time outdoors. Each silicone-based wristband is infused with a citronella-scented fragrance and contains 0.75g citronella oil per band, helping to keep mosquitoes, sandflies, midges and flies away without needing to apply repellent directly to the skin.
Once opened, the band can provide up to 48 hours of outdoor use. This means the active time is based on cumulative use outdoors, not simply 48 hours from the moment you open the packet. For example, if you wear the band outside for a few hours in the evening, you can place it back into its resealable pouch afterwards to help preserve the scent and extend its usable life across multiple outings.
The bands are designed to be worn on the wrist only and should not be worn on the ankle, as the fit may be too tight. Mozzigear offers different sizing for adults and children: adult bands are suitable for ages 13+, with a diameter of approximately 6.69 cm, while kids' bands are smaller and designed for younger wrists. This size difference matters because a comfortable fit helps make the band easier to wear, especially for families using them during camping, picnics, BBQs, playground visits or summer evenings outside.
Because they are DEET-free, water-resistant and easy to wear, Mozzigear Mosquito Bands are a practical everyday option for families who prefer not to spray repellent over the body. For higher-risk areas or longer outdoor exposure, they can also be paired with Mozzigear Natural Armour Spray for extra protection. Always read the label and use only as directed.
Bands are best for:
- Everyday outdoor use for the whole family
- Kids - easy to put on, no spraying needed
- School holidays, backyard play, afternoon sports
- People who want DEET-free protection with minimal effort
Mosquito patches
Mozzigear Mosquito Patches are a simple, no-skin-contact option for families who want mosquito protection without spraying repellent directly onto the body. Each adhesive patch releases a citronella-scented fragrance and can be placed on clothing, prams, strollers, outdoor furniture, bags, caps and other nearby surfaces to help keep mosquitoes, sandflies, midges and insects away.
Each patch is effective for up to 12 hours, making it a handy option for daytime outings, school bags, picnics, camping, fishing, gardening, BBQs, cricket, golf or evening walks. Because the patch does not need to touch the skin, it can be especially useful for babies, newborns and people with sensitive or reactive skin.
For best use, apply the patch close to where insects are likely to land or bite, but still on fabric or another surface - not directly on skin. Good placement options include the ankle area of a sock, the outside of a sleeve, the back of a collar, a hat or cap, the side of a stroller, a baby carrier, a camping chair, or the outside of a backpack. For children, placing one patch on the back of their shirt or collar can also help keep it out of reach.
Mozzigear Patches are DEET-free, natural, non-toxic and easy to use, with no spray, sticky lotion or direct skin contact required. For extra no-contact protection, they can also be used alongside the Mozzigear Ultrasonic Repeller, which can be worn on the body or placed close by. Always read the label and use only as directed.
Patches are best for:
- Toddlers and young children (zero skin contact)
- Travel and events where spray isn't practical
- Extra coverage alongside bands or spray
- Prams, strollers and school bags

Can you use more than one at a time?
Yes - and in higher-exposure situations, combining formats gives you the most complete protection.
Spray on exposed skin + bands on wrists + patches on clothing gives you overlapping layers of coverage. This combination works well for camping, hiking or spending full days outdoors in areas with heavy mosquito activity.
For most everyday situations - backyard play, afternoon BBQ, school holidays at the park - bands alone are enough.
